Mrs. Mahalie Lee Butts, 96, of Lillington went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 7, 2014. She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late George W. Lee and Minnie Tew Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.T. Butts; brothers, Jessie Lee and Robert W. Lee, sisters, Nellie Woodruff, Gertrude Parnell, Thelma Zagona and Geneva Whitman.
Mahalie and H.T. owned and operated H.T. Butts Grocery Store outside of Lillington for 25 years. They also farmed various crops for many years. Mahalie helped operate the family gas station and supermarket at the Lillington crossroads and also ran Haley's Seafood Kitchen for several years in the 1970's. She was a member of Pleasant Union Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Pleasant Union Christian Church with Pastor Cary Snelling officiating. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the home of Lodis Gauldin.
She is survived by a daughter, Lodis B. Gauldin of Lillington, son, Harold Butts, Jr. and wife Samantha of Buies Creek, 3 granddaughters, Abby Petty and husband Walter, Adrian Milton and husband Darrell, Amanda Jenkins and husband Todd, 7 great-grandchildren, Adam Petty and wife Brittany, Jacob Petty, Jonathan Petty, Taylor Milton, Hannah Milton, Rebecca Milton and Emma Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Union Christian Church Missions, 2164 Neills Creek Rd., Lillington, NC 27546.Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Pleasant Union Christian Church with Pastor Cary Snelling officiating.
