Mrs. Madeline Ward Hawley, 81 of Lillington died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at WakeMed in Raleigh. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy Spain Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Davis "Billy" Hawley; sister, Lela Ward Dickerson; and brother, Daniel Ward. She was a long time member of Antioch Baptist Church and prior to her declining health, was actively involved with the Antioch Choir and WMU. She retired from Harnett County Department of Social Services after 33 years of service. Madeline was involved with various community projects, including the original idea and design work for the welcome signs that are placed at the Lillington town limits. She also worked at the Antioch Baptist Church Day Care Center in Mamers and spent much of her free time as a caregiver for others.

Funeral service will be conducted 6:00 pm Monday, April 2, 2012 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. David Anderson and Rev. Dan Deaton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 pm prior to the service in the church sanctuary, other times at her home.

Mrs. Hawley is survived by her daughters, Brenda Hawley Smith and husband Randy of Lillington; Lucinda "Cindy" Hawley Reif of Lillington; 3 grandchildren, John Gary Black, Jr., William Davis Reif, and Logan Michael Reif.
