Mrs. Lynda K. Jenks, 72, of Broadway passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at her home. She was born in Comanche, OK and raised in Duncan, OK as the daughter of the late Leonard Allen and Lola Hedrick Allen. After high school, Lynda met the love of her life, Albert Jenks who was serving in the US Air Force. They married and within a short time the military transferred them to England. While living in England, she experienced the birth of her two sons. After multiple transfers, the family moved to Tacoma Washington while Albert served in Thailand. During this time, she obtained her nursing degree and started a long career in nursing. Lynda's family transferred to Fairbanks, Alaska where she started a career as an E.R. Nurse. She retired as the Emergency Room Manager at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital after 21 years of service. Lynda received numerous awards during her career including "Lynda Jenks Day" being proclaimed by the Governor of Alaska and the Mayors of Fairbanks and the Northstar Borough. After retiring, Lynda moved to Broadway with her husband and became an active member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Patrick Broaddus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the home.
Lynda is survived by her husband of 52 years, Albert Jenks of the home, son, Bryant Jenks and wife Bretton of Vero Beach, FL and son, James Jenks and wife Sue of Maple Valley, WA, 5 grandchildren, Emily Jenks, Ashley Jenks, Lauren Jenks, Tyler Jenks and Tanner Jenks, mother, Lola Hedrick Allen of Duncan, OK, sisters, Sharon Black and Janie Massey, brother, Jim Allen all of Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, PO Box 525, Mamers, NC 27552.
