Mr. Luther Carter Holder, 83, of Virginia Beach, VA died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at his home. He was born November 3, 1929 in Harnett County, the son of the late Frank C. and Evie Lee Matthews. Mr. Holder was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Edward Matthews.

Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Gourd Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington, NC Friday evening March 15, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

He is survived by his wife Alice Faye Holder and grandson Zachary Garrenton of the home; son, Gary Carter Holder and wife Marcia of Spring Lake; daughter, Teresa Lee Daniels of Tappahannock, VA; daughter, Debra H. Bass and husband Jeff of Virginia Beach, VA; step-sons, Kelly Garrenton of Gates County, NC, Richard Garrenton of Williamsburg, VA; step-daughter, Jennifer Garrenton of Suffolk, VA; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandsons; brothers, Dayton Stedman Holder of Siler City, NC, Floyd Matthews of Cameron, NC and sister, Dorothy Holder of Lillington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 289 Hospital Rd., Tappahannock, VA 22560.
