SGM. Retired Louis Colon "Mac" McKinnie, US Army, 67, of Fuquay-Varina passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late James Brannon and Inez Smith McKinnie. He was a graduate of Nashville Diesel College, Fayetteville Technical Community College and the Sergeant Major Academy in El Paso TX. Louis served 5 tours in Vietnam and proudly served the US Army for 22 years. He was an owner/operator for Mac Tools and Matco Tools in Moore, Harnett, Lee, Cumberland and Scotland counties. Louis also worked with military contractors testing and developing military vehicles. He was preceded in death by his son, Louis Colon McKinnie, Jr. and sister, Louise Lee.
Louis is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vicki Thompson McKinnie of the home; daughter, Amber McKinnie Lee and husband, Christopher of Newton Grove; 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Alexa and Colby; brother, Allen McKinnie and wife, Carolyn of Kingsport, TN; sister, Debbie Partin and husband, Steve of Angier, NC; Treasa Atwood and husband, Andrew of Harmony, Maine; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 4, 2016 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington with Pastor C.H. Lee and Pastor Michael Hall officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Westview Cemetery in Lillington. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the home.
