Lela Ward Dickerson, 90 of Lillington died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy Spain Ward and was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Dickerson and a brother, Daniel Ward.

She retired in 1976 after 38 years of service with Bell South. She was originally employed in Raleigh and transferred to Charleston, SC in 1945, where she retired. For 10 years, she was the mayor of Hollywood, SC. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of American, Fort Sumter Council, also an active volunteer for RSVP, serving as a volunteer at the Harnett Central Middle School and for The Meals On Wheels in Lillington. Lela was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, The WMU and sang in the church choir.

Funeral service will be conduceted 7:00 pm Friday April 23, 2010 at Antioch Baptist Church, Mamers with Rev. Martin Groover officiatin. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Entombment will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday at Live Oak Cemetery in Charleston South Carolina.

She is survived by a sister, Madeline Hawley of Lillington; Nieces, Brenda Hawley Smith, Cindy Hawley Reif, Kris Ward Ruff; Nephew, Daniel Todd Ward.
