Lavera Roberts Aiken, 98 , of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Lillington, NC, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lavera was born on June 18, 1917 in Harnett County to the late John Lucius Roberts, Sr. and Mattie Greene Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harold Griffith "H.G." Aiken, a granddaughter Amanda Kathleen McCarthy, four brothers and four sisters.

Lavera was a long time member of Lillington United Methodist Church and held many positions with the church and United Methodist Women. She attended school in Creedmoor, NC and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College where she was a member of the women's varsity basketball and softball teams.

Lavera's life was one of service to her Lord, her family and her friends. She and H.G. were always available when their family and friends needed them. She was a homemaker and worked at Pope Air Force Base at Fort Bragg during World War II. She also worked 20 years for the Bank of Lillington and Bank of North Carolina prior to retiring in 1977 . Following the death of her husband, Lavera lived in Longmont, CO, Greenville, SC and finally in Wilmington, NC to be near her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Steve Aiken and wife Brenda of Wilmington, NC; daughters Mona McCarthy and husband Mike of Longmont, CO and Nanda Price and husband Clark of Greenville, SC; grandchildren Scott Aiken and wife Julie, Lisa Aiken Watermeier and husband Tom, Emily Price Goforth and husband Ben, Libby McCarthy Anderson and husband Eric, Thomas Price and wife Abby, and great-grandchildren Gavin Cooper, Crayton Anderson and Rose Goforth.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Lillington United Methodist Church, Lillington, NC. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11 a.m. with Reverend David Heath and Reverend Ben Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Creedmoor Cemetery, Creedmoor, NC.
