Mr. Larry Clifton Coleman, 78, of Lillington passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at home. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late James Clifton Coleman and Myrtle Lee Kennedy Coleman. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Coleman, sister, Donaphine "Donnie" Butler and husband Robert, sister-in-law, Dianne Coleman, brother-in-law, Robert Johnson and nephew, David Johnson. Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and ended his naval career on the USS Forrestal. He worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation in Raleigh and retired with over 30 years of service. Larry enjoyed surf fishing with friends and family. He loved to plant a garden each year and share his bounty of vegetables with the community. Larry was a simple man who loved to share stories and reflect on days of old.
Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Ann Coleman of the home; 2 sons, Michael Coleman of Lillington, Kevin Coleman and wife Tracy of Lillington; 5 grandchildren, Jodi Brownne and husband Taylor, Jordan Byrd, Hunter Coleman, Kayla Coleman and Kameron Coleman; 4 great-grandchildren, Serenity Brownne, Alexandria Brownne, Kaiden Coleman and Mason Brownne; sister, Lana Ahrens and husband A.J. of Georgia; brother, Linwood Coleman of Broadway; sister, Brenda Johnson of Lillington; sister, Delia Powell and husband Leon of Lillington and brother, Jimmy Coleman and wife Cindy of Lillington; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel with Rev. Robbie O'Quinn officiating.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
In accordance with current North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home requests that everyone in attendance practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
