Larry Wayne Belcher, SFC, U.S. Army (Retired)

Larry Wayne Belcher of Spring Lake, NC, passed away on Wednesday, 30 September 2020 at 8:34p.m.  His death was caused by Lung Cancer that he had been fighting like a true warrior for the last 5 Years.   Larry was born in Lebanon, Indiana on 18 July 1949 to Anna Louise (Neese) and Charles Belcher, and was 71 years old on his last birthday.

Larry retired from the Army in 1991 after 22 years of service to his country.  During this time he spent the first 2 years in the Air Force during which he fought in the Vietnam War.  After returning to the service in 1975, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  His various duty stations included Fort Hood, TX, Fort Riley, KS, Fort Huachuca, AZ, Ansbach, W. Germany, Fort Gillem, GA, and several tours in Korea.

After his retirement from the Army, he worked at various jobs such as locksmith, postal worker, and HVAC Technician.  After 9/11/2001 he joined the Federal Civil Service as a Civilian and worked for the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker, AL, Fort Knox, KY, Fort McPherson, GA, and Fort Bragg, NC until October 2015 when he retired for the final time.

Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, 6 months, and 15 days, Christine Kaye Smith Belcher, two Daughters, Shannon Belcher (boyfriend, Jason Valdes) of McDonough, GA, and Amy Smith (Spouse, William Douglas Smith), and one Granddaughter, Kaelyn Michelle Smith, of McDonough, GA.  Larry also has 2 Sisters, Emily Bond (Jake) of Frankfort, IN, and Norma Hedges (John) of Lebanon, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Louise (Neese/Belcher) Carlin; his father, Charles Belcher; his step-father, Kenneth Carlin; and his younger Brother, Eddie Belcher.

There will be a small Celebration of Life held on Saturday, October 17 at 2 PM  at O'Quinn- Peebles- Phillips Funeral Home and Crematory, a reception will follow.  Ph:  (910) 893-3232, 1310 S. Main Street, Lillington, NC 27546.  Face Masks must be worn.

In lieu of Flowers, a donation to "The American Cancer Society" in Larry's name would be appreciated.
