Kenneth Andrew "Drew" Watkins, III, 17 of Coats died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 as a result of an accidental drowning. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Kenneth A. Watkins, paternal great grandparents, Van and Maxine Harris,and maternal great grandparents, William and Grace Taylor.
Drew was a senior at Harnett Central High School. He was very athletic, participating in many sports both at school and recreational leagues. His favorite sports were wrestling, football, tennis, and basketball. Drew loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed all aspects of life, both in school and with his family. He was kind hearted to all people no matter what the situation. His wonderful laughter and sense of humor will be missed by all those who loved him.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 17 at 2:00 pm at Crossroads Baptist Church in Lillington, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ken Dalton. Burial will follow in the Coats City Cemetery.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
Memorials may be made to the Drew Watkins Memorial Fund, with checks made payable to Harnett Central High School, 2911 Harnett Central Road, Angier, NC 27501.
Survivors include his parents, Kenneth Andrew "Andy" Watkins, II and Andrea Gregory Watkins of the home; sisters, Tabitha Avery and husband Tony of Coats and Amanda Whitaker and husband Jeremiah of Lillington; his brother, John Watkins of the home; paternal grandmother, Sue Watkins of Troy; maternal grandparents, William and Julia Gregory of Coats; and maternal great grandmother, Helen Utley of Lillington.
