Mr. Keith Lowell Newport, 55, of Lillington passed away Friday, August 14, 2015 at his home after a courageous battle with ALS. Keith stayed positive and joyful no matter the circumstances. He was born March 29, 1960 in Littlethorpe, England, the son of the late Christopher Newport and Barbara Sander. Keith was a graduate of Virginia Tech where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. While at Virginia Tech, he met his wife, Mary Maxey and they were married 2 weeks after graduation. Keith began his career as a Civilian Engineer for the US Navy in Philadelphia. He then worked for over 20 years for Black and Veatch, an international engineering firm, first at their headquarters in Kansas City and then transferring to Cary in 2003. Keith was a Christian and loved his church family at Fuquay Varina Church of Christ. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and son who enjoyed sharing his valuable wisdom and advice with others. Keith will be remembered for his humility and loving-kindness.

Keith is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Maxey Newport of the home, son, Christopher Newport of Boulder Creek, CA, daughter, Amanda Newport-Foster and husband Benjamin Newport-Foster of Durham, mother, Barbara Kemper Newport Sander of Glen Arbor, MI, sister, Sally Guenette and husband John Guenette of Northbridge, MA, brother, Neil Newport and wife Beth Newport of Ashburn, VA, 3 nieces, Jennifer Guenette, Elizabeth Newport and Hannah Newport, nephew, Matthew Guenette.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Fuquay Varina Church of Christ, 6320 Whitted Rd., Fuquay Varina, NC 27526.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Duke ALS Clinic, 932 Morreene Rd., Durham, NC 27705 or Transitions Lifecare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
