Mrs. Joyce "Sis" H. Gunter, 70, of Sanford died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC. She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late William Walter and Blanche Hallman Patterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Gunter and a brother, Elton Hallman. Mrs. Gunter was a member of Sanford Freewill Holiness Church in Sanford. She was a member of the gospel group "Angel Band" ministries.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Sanford Freewill Holiness Church in Sanford with Rev. Pearl Castleberry officiating. Burial will follow in Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mamers. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

She is survived by daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Riddle of Broadway, son, William D. Gunter and wife Tammy of Sanford, daughter, Amanda Gunter Salmon of the home and fiancé Tony of Siler City,
son, Elton R. Gunter and wife Betty of Sanford, 8 grandchildren, Jason D. Riddle, Johnathon D.Gunter, Crystal R. Riddle, Jennifer M. Gunter, Allen Salmon, Lauren Salmon, Austin D. Gunter, Alexis C. Gunter, 4 great-grandchildren, Nicholas R. Riddle, Cadence O. Gunter, Madison E. Carter, Cameron M. Sellers, brother, Eli Hallman and wife Magalene of Sanford, brother, Ukie Hallman and wife Margie of Goldston.
