John Robert Ryals, 60, of Angier went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 26, 2014.

John was born in Johnston Co. to Mary Lois Tart Ryals and the late William Charles Ryals.

John was a Past Master Mason of the Angier Masonic Lodge #0686. He was a member of the New Bern Shriners and the York Rite. He was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church but also attended Buies Creek First Baptist Church. He was a Terminal Manager with AAA Cooper Transportation where he worked for 26 years. His true passion was farming with his family. John was a very generous person, he loved taking care and helping family, friends and people in the community. Even after death he still helped people by donating his organs.

A funeral will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Hannah Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Benson. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jean Ryals of the home, a daughter, Laura Morrill and husband Robert of Angier; a son, John Ryals, Jr. and wife Shelley of Spivey's Corner; two sisters, Barbara Taylor and husband David of Four Oaks, and Jo Ann Moore of Angier; a brother, Charles Ralph Ryals and wife Pam of Benson; two grandchildren, Piper and Pierce Morrill.
