Obituary

John Jinnett Jones, 64 of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

John was born in Carteret Co. to the late Robert Leon and Helen Norris Jones. He was preceded in death by his sister Roberta Malnati.

After graduating West Carteret High School he went into the Navy where he served his country for 4 years. After he got out of the Navy he was a carpenter for many years. He decided to go back to school and get his criminal justice degree from Mt. Olive College. He retired from Cumberland Co. as a Substance Abuse Counselor. He enjoyed spending time with his favorite dog, Sasha and his grand daughter, Briana.

John is survived by son, Johnathan Jones and wife Candace of Lillington; step-son, Jeromy Delgatto of Newport; brother, Tom Jones and wife Debbie of Newport; sister, Alexis Jones-Waddell and husband Gorman of Kingsport, TN; a grand-daughter, Briana Jones of Lillington; a special friend Brenda Duarte of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2014 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Patrick Broaddus officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the funeral home. Father Thomas Gaul will be doing a special wake during the visitation.
