John Marshall Johnson, 87, of Lillington passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.

John was preceded in death by his parents Chesley and Arlie Wester Johnson. A brother, Larry Johnson.

John was a master carpenter and home builder. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. John served in the US Army during WWII. In his free time John liked to farm.

John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet Hood Johnson of the home; 3 daughters, Janet Louise Johnson of Lillington, Mildred Hinkle and husband James of Pittsboro, Dr. Katherine Johnson Coats and husband Kevin of Holly Springs; a son, John Marshall Johnson, Jr. and wife Deborah of New Jersey; 7 siblings, Florine Penny, Jessie Cannady, Aaron Johnson, Ramona Bethune, Edith Mangum, Doris Peebles, and Nathan Johnson; 1 grandson, Brian Johnson of Washington DC.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Neill's Creek Baptist Church, with pastor Chris Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Saturday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and other times at the home.

He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
