Obituary

John Tilden Howington, Jr. of Lillington was born January 20th, 1934. He departed this life Saturday afternoon, June 28th, 2013, at age 79. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, John Tilden Howington and Bella Allen Howington, and a sister, Annie Mae Langdon. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Morrison Howington Hare, and also his second wife, Beulah Dickens Howington. He is survived by his four children, son Allen Howington and wife Becky Howington, daughter Alicia Thomas and friend Jay Norris, son, John Tilden Howington III and wife Kim Howington, and daughter Jean Howington Johnson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and six stepchildren. Tommy is also survived by a sister, Glenda Taylor and brother, James Howington and wife Janell Howington.

Tommy worked at Cornell Dubilier for 12 years and later worked at Carnes Corporation for over 32 years. Tommy loved to play guitar and piano; he played in many groups and churches over the years. He also was an avid gardener. He was a lifelong member of Summerville Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as an Elder. Tommy now rests with his Savior and lives in the presence of God.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Summerville Presbyterian Church in Lillington with Rev. Thomas K. Spence and Rev. Harold Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at his home.
