J.D. "Johnny" Byrd, 84, of Lillington, NC passed away Wednesday June 15, 2022, at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC.

He was born January 1, 1938, in Harnett County, NC to the late Alda O'Quinn Byrd and Junious William Byrd. Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Scott Dexter Byrd, and his sisters, Elsie Byrd Brown and Jennie Marie Byrd.

Johnny was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church. He pursued several careers including farming, forestry, and as an independent truck driver. Johnny loved to sing in the choir at Antioch and loved collecting classic cars and tractors. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with nature and traveling to the beach.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Williams Byrd; his sons, Johnny Dwight Byrd and wife, Kathleen, Barry William Byrd, and Jonathan Dillon Byrd; his grandchildren, Randall Scott Byrd, Ashley Byrd Arnold, Kaylee Morgan Byrd, Ian William Byrd, and Jenna Sharon Byrd; his great-granddaughter, Meadow Suzanne Arnold; his sister, Shirley Byrd Hogue; and his brothers, William Ed Byrd and Ronald Byrd.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Saturday June 18 at O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Sunday June 19 at 3PM at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
