James "Jimmy" Morris Spell, 72 of Broadway passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation.

James was born May 31, 1944 in Sampson Co. to the late James and Nancy McDaniel Spell.

James served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from Chatham Co. as the tax supervisor and an appraiser. He enjoyed woodwork and doing things for others. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway.

James is survived by his sister, Patsy Parsons and husband Jerry of Broadway; a son Jeffrey, two daughters, Laura and Anna, and their mother, Susie; and a niece and two nephews who were special to him.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Yow and Jerry Parsons officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
