James Wesley "Jimmy" Matthews, 71 of Fuquay-Varina died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington. He was born in Harnett County on November 29, 1940 to the late Elmo and Gladys Brown Matthews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Lee Matthews and great nephew Matt Matthews. A graduate of Lafayette High School, he continued his studies at Campbell University where he graduated in 1964. Jimmy was an active member of Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Lillington Masonic Lodge #312.

Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, April 11, 2012 atChalybeate Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Greene and Rev. C. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends following the service in the Chalybeate Springs Community Building.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Jody Matthews; Son, Brandon Matthews of the home; Daughter, Tracie Matthews of the home; Brother, Davey Elmo Matthews of Fuquay-Varina; Sister, Barbara M. Barbour and husband Paul of Fuquay-Varina; Nieces, Pam Denning, Tonja Singleton; Nephews, Barry Barbour, Lee Matthews, Walt Temple, Eric Matthews; 7 Great nieces and nephews; 2 great great nieces and nephews.
