Mr. James E. Longman, age 69, of Sanford went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, December 08, 2010 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of the late Arthur E. and Mertis M. Latier Longman. Mr. Longman was a US Army veteran. He retired from the Apex Rescue Squad after 24 years of service. Mr. Longman worked as a safety manager with Baker Roofing Company of Raleigh for the past 21 years.

Memorial service will be 10:00 AM Saturday December 11, 2010 at New Hope Baptist Church in Sanford with Rev Brian Parker and Rev. Brian Stebbins officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anna Matthews Longman of the home, daughter, Vickie Longman of Raleigh, daughter, JoAnna Maguire and husband Rob of Portsmouth, VA, 2 grandchildren, Chase Maguire and Reese Maguire, sister-in-law, Faye Stone and husband R.M. of Staunton, VA, sister-in-law, Kay Frances Smith of Fort Mill, SC, numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made New Hope Baptist Church, 3915 Hawkins Ave., Sanford, NC 27330.
