Jack Jones Allen, 89, of Bunnlevel passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at his home. Jack was born on January 13, 1927 to Lemuel Carl and Gertrude Jones Allen, also of Bunnlevel. He was known by many as the honorary mayor of his beloved hometown and spent his lifetime making it a better place to live. He was a loyal friend to many and tried to live his life as his Grandpa Willie, one of "Harnett's noblemen", advised him when he was a little boy... "Every week of your life, do something for someone or give something to someone, and you will prosper."

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church, Bunnlevel. Burial will take place at the Bunnlevel cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 PM at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. Memorials may be made to Bunnlevel Cemetery Fund, PO Box 150, Bunnlevel, NC 28323.

Jack served in the US Navy, was a building contractor for 22 years, farmed for 3 years, ran his grocery store - Allen Farm Supply - for 10 years, and operated his cherished sawmill for 26 years, selling it at age 84 after his cancer diagnosis. He was the last surviving charter member of the Bunnlevel Ruritan Club, established in 1946, and a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.
Jack was predeceased by his brother Carl Allen, Jr; three young children, Jimmy, Jackie, and Scott; and his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth "Lib" Byrd Allen, who he cared for and adored until she passed away in 1999. He is survived by his oldest daughter Kathy Everhart along with her husband Joel of Lake Gaston, and his youngest daughter Suzanne Graham of Coats, all of whom will cherish memories of him and the stories he shared.

"Papa Jack" will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Jessica Everhart Denny and husband Brian, Brooke Everhart Chehoski and husband Jason, all of Columbia, SC; and Joshua Graham of Coats. They, along with his great grandchildren, Kendall and Cooper Denny, delighted in hearing him say, "Great day in the morning!"
