Ivan C. Strickland, 89 of Buies Creek, Died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Greenleaf Care Center.

Ivan was born July 21, 1927 in Sampson Co. to the late Mary Alice Taylor and Isaac Columbus Strickland. Ivan was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 1 brother.

Ivan was raised on a farm in Sampson Co and went into the Army at the end of WWII. After being discharged from the Army he met his wife Doris. He worked for 41 years at Campbell University as Superintendent of the Motor Pool as the head mechanic. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Palmyra 147 Lodge in Dunn. His love was traveling with his wife to the beach and the mountains. His family and friends meant everything to him and he enjoyed spending time with them.

Ivan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Dixon Strickland; a son, Ivan Strickland, Jr. "Butch" and wife Connie of Coats; a daughter, Linda Strickland Welborn and husband Darren of Buies Creek; a brother, Ray Strickland and wife Helen of Raleigh; a sister, Rosalie Mozingo of Mt. Olive; 4 grandchildren, Angela James, David Strickland, Tony Jackson and Brittany Jackson; 4 great grandchildren; Tahjme Strickland, Geonnie Strickland, Dylan Payne and Niyah Nichols.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon till 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 30, 2016 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Gary Tew officiating. Burial will follow at Buies Creek Cemetery.
