Obituary

Mrs. Hilda K. Olive, 85, of Spring Lake passed away Monday, October 3, 2022 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. She was born in Glen Haven, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Roland and Sylvia Dauphnee Smith. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, George Olive and her oldest brother, Gordon Smith of Glen Haven.

She was raised on a farm beside the ocean and in her early 20's she left to make her way in the world. She moved to Goose Bay, Labrador and began working as a secretary at the Air Force base. There she would meet her husband George and they were together for 52 years until his passing. His career carried them all over the world during their time together. They came to North Carolina in 1977 and made Anderson Creek their home. She was a homemaker who took pride in raising her sons and taking care of her family. All of her children, whether they were her two sons or all the ones she adopted in her heart, knew to make a pass through her kitchen for two or three of the homemade cookies that always filled the cookie jar beside her oven. In later years she delighted in every opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren. She never forgot her roots and made a trip home every year to spend time with her family. She loved spending time on the coast of Nova Scotia. Her presence will be deeply missed by her entire family but we are grateful that she is reunited with the man who loved her with all his heart.

Hilda is survived by her sons, Chuck Olive and wife Shannon of Crumpler, David Olive and wife Jill of Mamers; five grandchildren, Courtney Miller, Jacob Olive, Andrew Olive, Seth Scott and Sidney Scott; five great grandchildren; brothers, Owen Smith and Frank Smith of Canada; sisters, Nora Picard and Elsie Manuel of Canada; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 AM at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at www.alzfdn.org
