Mr. Herman L. Byrd, 74, of Broadway passed away, Friday, July 17, 2015 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late J.E. "Jim" Byrd and Bertha Wilson Byrd Dennis. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Byrd, Bernice Byrd and Jerry Byrd. He worked as a machinist with Roberts Company for over 20 years. Mr. Byrd also worked at the Harnett County Solid Waste Recycle Centers in Mamers and Johnsonville. He also worked as a security officer with Central Carolina Tire Disposal in Johnsonville. Mr. Byrd was an avid Duke fan, enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 20, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Patrick Broaddus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM and other times at the home of Deborah and Jerry Cordevant.

Mr. Byrd is survived by 2 daughters, Karen Byrd of Broadway and Deborah Cordevant and husband Jerry of Broadway, 2 grandchildren, Melissa and Eric Cordevant, brother, Bobby Byrd of Lillington, sister, Hazel Thomas of Greensboro, previous wife, Barbara Holder of Lillington.
