Mr. Henry Bernard Clayton, Jr., 91, of Broadway passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, March 22, 2018. He was born in Person County on September 12, 1926, the son of the late Hallie and Henry B. Clayton, Sr. Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Clayton; sister, Lois Clayton and 2 brothers, D.C. and Carl Clayton.

Bernard was a US Army WWII veteran. He retired from Sanford Produce and also worked as a farmer. Bernard was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers and was a die hard Carolina Tarheel fan.

Bernard is survived by 2 daughters, Donna Clayton (Darrell May) of Lillington, Phyllis Tankersley (Roger) of Angier; 3 sons, Larry Clayton (Elaine) of Broadway, Duane Clayton (Cathy) of Mamers, Darrell Clayton (Barbara) of Broadway; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Dan Deaton and Rev. Rick Beacham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary Saturday from 10:00-11:00 AM and other times at his home.
