Helen Claire Cherry Jones, 81, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, formerly of Buies Creek, NC, passed away on March 6, 2015, at Western Wake Hospital due to complications from pneumonia. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oscar E. Jones Jr.; her daughter Cynthia Lynn Jones; brothers, Earl, Raymond, Fred, Arnold, Lawrence, and James Cherry; and her sisters Virginia Byram and Faye McDonald.

Born in Porterville, Mississippi on September 26, 1934, Helen was one of nine children to the late Albert Evan and Sarah Elizabeth Cherry. She lived in the South her entire life, eventually settling in Buies Creek, North Carolina, with her husband and three children.
Helen's life was sweet and simple; she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Helen was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church, as well as her community, having volunteered with the DAV Auxiliary and the Lions Club until her health no longer permitted.

Helen is survived by her son Dennis Jones and wife Judy of Linden; her daughter Linda Jones and husband Jeff of Fuquay-Varina; granddaughter Sarah Szabady of Cary; grandsons Daniel Joyner and David Joyner of Myrtle Beach; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home, Lillington. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, Buies Creek. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier.
