Mrs. Helen Russell Crews, 87, of Lillington passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Transitions Lifecare in Raleigh. She was born in Kinston, NC the daughter of the late Elliott Swan and Bryce Wooten Russell. Helen was a graduate of Southwood High School in Lenior County, Flora McDonald College and received her Masters Degree in Social Work from UNC- Chapel Hill. Helen came to Harnett County to teach and later began work in Social Services. She retired after many years of service as Director of Social Services for Harnett County. Helen was an active member of Lillington United Methodist Church serving in many capacities over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Gibbons Crews, Sr. and a brother, Richard Russell.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Lillington United Methodist Church with Dr. Elton Hendricks officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1:00-2:00 PM.

Helen is survived by her sons, Ernest "Ernie" G. Crews and wife Donna of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Elliott R. Crews and wife Lisa of Lillington, 3 grandchildren, Alan T. Crews of Arlington, VA, William "Billy" R. Crews of Greenville, NC and Loraine "Rainey" Crews of Greenville, brother, John Russell and wife Peggy of Greensboro, NC, several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
