Harold Wesley Lloyd, 87, of Buies Creek died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Duke Raleigh Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born April 12, 1925 in the community of Gum Branch near Richlands, NC to the late Ernest Wesley and Dollie Mae Heath Lloyd. Mr. Lloyd graduated from Richlands High School in 1942, worked in the Naval shipyards in Wilmington, NC, for a period of time and then joined the Navy in 1945. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Soil Science. His first career was in fertilizer sales traveling throughout eastern North Carolina. In 1968 Mr. Lloyd relocated to Buies Creek where he served as an agricultural extension agent for Harnett County for 24 years before his retirement in 1991. Mr. Lloyd was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek. He served in various capacities including 40 years of service to the Men's Adult Bible class. He was also a Rotarian for many years and served on the Pamlico County Board of Education prior to his relocation to Harnett County. Mr. Lloyd served on numerous agricultural committees across the state.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Louise Metts Lloyd and his brother Vernon D. Lloyd of Jacksonville, NC.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Max Eller officiating. Burial will be in Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, other times at his home.

Mr. Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Dr. Laura A. Lloyd and husband Dr. A. Timothy Seavers of Greenville. Sons, Harold W. Lloyd, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Hickory; Mark A. Lloyd and wife Norma of Cary; Matthew Lloyd of Buies Creek. Grandchildren, Abram Lloyd Nevin Seavers, Harold Wesley Lloyd, III, Beth Lloyd Simpson and husband Joshua, John-Michael Lloyd, Hannah Lloyd James, and David Andrew Lloyd. Great-grandchildren, Noah, Eli, and Kaden Seward, Korah James, Cooper and Henry Simpson. Sister, Zelma Lloyd Rahal and husband Alex of Gum Branch. Brother-In-Law, Dr. Albert Metts, Jr. and wife Dr. Trisha A. Metts of Johnson City, Tenn.
