Gerald "Joe" Holder, 67 of Lillington passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Durham.

Gerald was born March 9, 1949 in Harnett Co. to the late Bertha Brown and Leonard Alford Holder. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Victor Holder, Earl Holder, Larry Holder and Dwayne Holder.

Gerald was a member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the US Army serving during Vietnam. He loved the outdoors, working in the yard and shopping. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren. He spent countless hours volunteering as a coach in the Western Harnett community and served as a role model to many.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 44 years, Harriett Holder of Lillington, a son, Michael Holder and wife Stephanie of Wilmington; a daughter, Shannon Long and husband Matt of Midland; a brother, Alford Holder of Sanford; three sisters, Faye Morris of Sanford, Belinda Buchanan and husband Tommy of Sanford, Pam Stewart of Broadway; five grandchildren, Morgan and Abigail Holder, Gracen, Kade and Ansley Long.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Barbecue Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Sherrod and Rev. Cameron Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home.
