George Edward Byrd, 82 of Bunnlevel died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Harnett Health Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn. He was born December 15, 1929, to Colon & Geneva Catherine Byrd. He was a lifetime member of Friendship Baptist Church in Bunnlevel, serving as a deacon and in various other capacities. He served in the US Army from March 30, 1951 through March 7, 1953 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma with a combat tour in Korea. He was employed at Erwin Mills for 42 years, farmed in Harnett County, and gardened with all his heart.

Funeral service will be conducted 1:30 pm Friday, August 10, 2012 at Friendship Baptist Church, Bunnlevel, NC with Rev. Paul Fowler and Rev. Dan Deaton officiating. Burial will be in the Bunnlevel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the funeral home, other times at his home.

Mr. Byrd is survived by Barbara H. Byrd, his wife of 60 years; Daughter, Georgianna B. Kiggins and husband, Timothy Kiggins of Sanford, NC; Sons, Richard H. Byrd and wife, Pamela L. Byrd of Bunnlevel, Duane E. Byrd and wife, Kathy W. Byrd of Bunnlevel; 11 Grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandson
