Mr. Harold Gene Wood, 84, of Lillington, formerly of Fayetteville, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Windsor Point in Fuquay Varina. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Mack Leonard and Lura Johnson Wood. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Byrd Wood; sister, Hortense Wood Parker and brother, Mack Leon Wood. He started as a farmer in Harnett County and then served in Germany in the US Army for 2 years. Mr. Wood was in business with his brothers-in-law and nephew for 52 years. He co-owned automotive parts and paint stores in Fayetteville, Burlington, Lillington, Asheboro and several other towns. Mr. Wood was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville until moving to Lillington in 1995 when he joined Lillington Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with time with immediate and extended family, working and hunting.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Smith, Rev. Condary Ellis and Rev. Ronnie Byrd
officiating. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Saturday December 22, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 PM.

He is survived by 2 sons, Alan Gene Wood and wife Beth of Clayton and Col. Jerry Wood (US Army) and wife Linse of Alexandria, VA; 6 grandchildren, Rachael , Avery , Sarah , Connor , Katherine and Walker Wood; sister, Weece Wood Duffy of Charlotte,sister, Janice Wood McLeod of Buies Creek and sister, Billie Wood Sawyer of Erwin.
