Obituary

TSGT. Franklin Lee Wimberly, Retired USAF/ Air Commando, 82, of Broadway passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at his home. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late James Leo and Lena Mae Wimberly. While serving in the United States Air Force, Frank served in Korea and Vietnam.

Frank loved being Grandpa Brownie when his wife had a Brownie Troop. He taught them to build fires and survive in the woods and find their way back out. He knew no strangers. Frank loved his family and helped them all. Frank made walking sticks and canes and gave away over 2000 to people that needed them. He has canes in at least 10 states, Mexico and Canada.

The family will receive friends Tuesday March 22, 2016 from 3:00-4:00 PM at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Frank is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janice Wimberly of the home; daughter, Cindy Corns and husband Jeff of Sanford, sons, George Hollar of Lillington and Todd Hollar and wife Tina of Mamers; brothers and sisters, Billy Wimberly and wife Judy, Marthanel Vann and husband William, Patricia Reeves and Faylene Brantley all of Lillington; 5 grandchildren, Bobbie Kelly and husband Greg, Cristy Beaston, Ryan Hollar, Talea Hollar and Sierra Hollar, 4 step-grandchildren, Serena Brown, Thea Brown, Thomas Corns and Jeremy Corns; 2 great-grandchildren, Aleigha Kelly and Andrew Kelly; 3 step great-grandchildren, Michael Corns, Tylin Corns and Isabella Brewer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wimberly family, 440 Turkey Path Rd., Broadway, NC 27505.
