Obituary

Mrs. Elsie Stewart age 89 of Lillington died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late A.H. and Myrtle Davis Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, C.P. Stewart. She was a graduate of Meredith College earning her BS degree in Education. She continued her studies at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she received her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling. Mrs. Stewart retired after more than 3 decades in public education, teaching English in the classroom and serving as a Guidance Counselor. Her career included service in Wake, Cumberland, and Harnett Counties. Mrs. Stewart was an active member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher. She assisted with MYF and Bible School as well as numerous other capacities within the church.

Funeral service will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, other times at her home.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her sons, Randy Stewart and wife Nancy of Rocky Mount; David Stewart and wife Sharon of Lillington. Sisters: Hazel S. Adams of Myrtle Beach, SC; Margie S. Anderson of Cameron, WVa. Brother, Charles Stewart of Clawson, Michigan. 6 Grandchildren: Trey Stewart, Carmen Clipper, Natalie Cortez, Nicholas Stewart, Josh Stewart, and Brian Stewart. 5 great grandchildren
