Eleanor Frances Lett Owen died Tuesday, April 23, 2012 in Winston-Salem. She was born on March 29, 1930 in Clay County, Alabama to Mamie Jane Carroll Lett and Henry Millard Lett. Eleanor was the third of seven children. She was married to Harold Elmer Owen, also of Clay County, Alabama on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 27, 1947.

Eleanor graduated from Campbell University at the young age of 60. She spent her adult life as an active worker in the Southern Baptist Church, serving tirelessly in her own church with Girl's Auxiliary and Acteens. She served as state director of Acteens and as the first female director of the Little River Baptist Association. Her spiritual passion was missions and she remained dedicated to that throughout her life.

She is survived by her Husband, Harold E. Owen of Winston Salem, NC; Daughter, Mary Owen Sotile and husband Wayne of Lake Norman, N C; Son, Hal Owen of Lillington, NC; Sister, Maxine Simmons of Alex City, Alabama; Brother, Nelson Lett and wife Betty of Childersburg, Alabama; Brother, Dallas Lett and wife Teresa of Wichita, Kansas. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. We will forever miss her kind and gentle spirit, her beautiful smile and her joyous laughter.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church in Cameron, N.C. Funeral service will be conducted 3:00 pm following the visitation at the church with Rev. Chris Wroten officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
