Obituary

Mr. Elbert Lewis McKinney, age 89, of Angier died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Universal Healthcare in Lillington. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Dollas and Lena Elizabeth Senter McKinney. Mr. McKinney was a US Army Air Corps veteran serving in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon and other Western Pacific locations with the 65th Troop Carrier Squadron. He worked as an aerial engineer and received various medals during his military service. Prior to his military service, he grew up on a cotton, tobacco and corn farm in his native Harnett County. He was a strong, committed follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and lived and practiced what he believed. His professional career included many occupations such as farming, hardware sales and plumbing. He and his wife, Kathleen served as dorm parents at Faith Children's Home in Danville, VA. Mr. McKinney also retired from the Engineering department at Durham Regional Hospital in Durham, NC. After retirement, his favorite hobbies were gardening and selling his produce. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters and his son-in-law, Cecil Johnson

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Grace Community Church, Angier, officiated by Rev. Brad Talley. Burial will be at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington

Visitation will be at Grace Community Church, Wed. Feb. 16, 2011 at 12:30-2:00 PM

Survivors include his wife of 64 years - Kathleen Stewart McKinney of the home; 2 sons- Jerry L. McKinney and wife Bonnie of Durham, Teddy Stewart McKinney and wife Gail of Angier; a daughter- Annette Johnson of Fuquay Varina; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother- Johnny McKinney of Fuquay Varina
