Mrs. Elaine Gilchrist Womack, 86 of Lillington passed away at Wake Medical Center on Sept. 25, 2011. She was born August 1, 1925 and was the daughter of the late I.J. and Nannie McDonald Gilchrist of Lillington. She grew up in Harnett County, graduated from Anderson Creek High School and served her country during WWII as a civil servant at the war department in Washington, DC. Following the war, she returned to Harnett County. She married the late Welton W. Womack and lived in Anderson Creek Township. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Ina Mae Womack, Maxine Gilchrist, and son-in-law, Martin Pait.

She is survived by her children: Barbara Lloyd and husband, Jerry; Jimmy Womack and wife, Jeannette; Connie Wicker and husband, Jimmy; Sandra Pait and Robert Womack; grandchildren: Monica Ray Stephenson, Daniel Womack and wife, Glenda; Donna Rose and husband, Mike; Jamie Wicker; Travis Wicker and wife, Jenny; Nathan Pait and Bryce Yarbrough and wife, Aleesha; great-grandchildren: Anna, John and Gracie Stephenson, Cameron Miller, Graham Abbuhl, Stacey Womack, Jenson and Worth Wicker. She is also survived by her sisters: Yvonne Casto, Wonnie Jordan, Clive (Ray) Thomas, Laverne White, Dot (Ronald) Johnson, Peggy (Louis) Smith, Faye (Clay) Porter, Brenda Gilchrist and Gail (Bill) Sloane and brother- and sisters-in-law, Hubert and Evelyn Womack and Dorothy Womack, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.

She was a founding member of Union United Methodist Church and retired from Harnett County Food Service at Anderson Creek School. She loved her neighbors and church family and showed that love as long as she was able by faithfully visiting and taking food to the sick and shut-in. When her health precluded these efforts, she continued to show her love by faithfully praying and keeping in touch through telephone calls.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Union United Methodist Church in Lillington with Rev. Bill Altman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at her home.
