Edward Daniel
Black, Jr.
Aug 10, 1934 — Jul 17, 2018
Edward Daniel Black Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2018, at his home in Lillington, NC.
He was born August 10, 1934, in Anderson Creek, NC, to Edward Daniel Black Sr. and Mary Bethea Black. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Jernigan Black, brother Lloyd Black, and sister Dorothy Louise Black.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 3 pm at Friendship Baptist Church in Bunnlevel with Pastor Ryan Bennett presiding. The burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home.
He is survived by his children, Gaye Black Howard (Tom) of Lincolnton, Deborah Black Senter (David) of Raleigh, Teresa Black Edwards (Tommy) of Marion, and Greg Black (Tammy) of Smithfield, sister Joyce Ann Ballard of Lillington, brother Leroy Black (Linda) of Raeford, sister-in-law Ernestine Black of Sanford, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren on the way, and many dear, dear friends.
Edward, a U.S. Air Force veteran, always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He loved God, his family, boating, cars, and motorcycles. He always said he was a jack of all trades and master of none, but his children knew he was a jack of all trades and master of all. He had a particular knack for storytelling. Many knew Edward as the "Karaoke King," with a repertoire of country classics, including his favorite, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones.
He requested that his epitaph read, "Ed had a good time." And he did.
Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church or Transitions Life Care.
