Dr. Charles Tomasino began his Eternal Life on Sunday evening July 29, 2018. He was born March 14, 1931 and was the son of Vincenza and Antonino Tomasino of Tampa, Fl.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and from the University of Florida with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry in 1952. While there, he enrolled in the R.O.T.C. When he graduated, he went into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. While at Ft. Bragg he met Pat O'Quinn of Lillington. He was sent overseas to Inchon, Korea, where he served until coming back home. Soon after his return he married Pat at Lillington Baptist Church on July 3, 1954.
His first job was working for two of his favorite college professors who owned Peninsular Chem Research in Gainesville, FL. While there, he and Pat became the proud parents of their first child, a son they named Charles Anthony, born February 3, 1957. At this same time Charles earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees from U of F.
In 1959-60, Charles began working for Celanese Fiber Company, in Charlotte, where their second son was born on July 17, 1960. They named him Michael Durant.
In 1961 he began to work for Burlington Industries Corporate R & D in Greensboro. In 1964 their daughter, Linda Carol was born. In 1977, he and his family moved to Raleigh for him to accept a job as associate professor in the Department of Textile Chemistry, College of Textiles at North Carolina State University. He became a full professor in 1983. He remained in the College of Textiles until retirement in 1997 to begin consulting jobs.
He is survived by wife of 64 years, Pat O'Quinn Tomasino; son, Tony of Raleigh and his daughters, Magen and Gracie; son, Michael (Melody) of Rocky Mount and his son, Troy (Skye) and their son Carlo Quinn (named for both of his grandparents), sons Tyler and Patrick Charles (also named for his grandparents); daughter, Carol T. Revels (Wally) of Wisconsin and daughters, Maria and Savannah. Charles is also survived by his brother, Paul Tomasino (Sherrill) of Tampa and his children John and Cathy; nephew, Joe Busciglio (Karla) and daughters, Sarah and Gina and their families; niece, Rose Taylor; and nephew, Tony Busciglio.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2 pm in O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Lillington. The burial will follow at Harnett Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Remembrances can be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or American Lung Association in memory of Charles Tomasino. Flowers are always welcome.
Arrangements are being handled by O"Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington.
