Douglas Brown Johnson of Lillington, died at his home on Sunday, February 20, 2011 following an extended battle with heart disease and Parkinson's. He was born in Harnett County on August 17, 1933 to the late D. W. (Buck) Johnson and Bernetta Brown Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany where his wife joined him. He also served six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He managed the family farm and was employed in industrial maintenance at Erwin Mills and Goodyear-Kelly Springfield, retiring in 1996 after 26 years at Kelly Springfield. Mr. Johnson was a lifetime member of Buies Creek First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and in many other areas of church life. He was a member of Neill's Creek Ruritan Club, American Legion Banner Post 109, and a former member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics.


A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Buies Creek First Baptist Church by Dr. J. Michael Simmons and Dr. John S. Rogers. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service in the church fellowship hall, other times in their home. Burial will be in Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Carolyn Turner Johnson; Son, Jody Douglas Johnson and wife, Teresa, of Fuquay-Varina; Grandsons Shannon, Andrew, David, and Steven Johnson, of Fuquay-Varina; Sisters: Barbara J. Brown of Lillington, Celia J. Melvin and husband, Phil, of Buies Creek, Carolyn J. King and husband Maurice, of Raleigh; and nieces, nephews and extended family
