Mrs. Dorothy Tingen Smith, 83, of Fuquay-Varina passed away Thursday August 22, 2019 at Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunn. She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Wade Tingen and Magdalene Tingen Cotton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Porter Smith, 2 brothers-in-law, Chester Snipes and Ben Smith. She and her husband farmed tobacco and other crops for many years. Dorothy was a member of Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina. She enjoyed reading and shopping with family.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Donna S. Matthews and husband Connie of Fuquay-Varina; 3 sisters, Jean Parker and husband Selby of Lillington, Judy Wimberly and husband Billy of Lillington, Barbara Harvell and husband Wesley of Coats; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Snipes of Fuquay-Varina and Faye Smith of Garner.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday August 26, 2019 at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina with Rev. Joe Cockrell and Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 1:00-2:45 PM.
