Dorothy Jean Stone Matthews, 85, of Bunnlevel, NC, went home to be with her Lord on October 2, 2022.

Dorothy was born in Harnett County, North Carolina, on January 22, 1937. The youngest of 12 children born to John Jackson and Nora Catherine Cannaday Stone, Dorothy lived in Lillington and attended Lillington School.

Affectionately called Dot by those who loved her, she was a smart, loving, and strong-willed woman, who met all the challenges her life offered head on. She worked for Harnett County Schools as a cafeteria worker, teacher assistant, and bus driver, as well as operating her own hairstyling business.

Left to treasure her memory are her four children, Deborah Currie Meekins (Wayne), Susan Equils Cagle (Michael), Kenneth Eugene Matthews (Kyoko), and David Lee Matthews (Heidi), seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be missed by them all.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home on Friday, October 7, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 PM Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington.
