Mrs. Doris G. Simmons, 90, a long time resident of Lillington, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Wilmington. She was born in Richmond County, NC, the daughter of the late John Lawrence and Maggie Wallace Goodman. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, T. Lamar Simmons; 9 brothers and a sister. She was a long time member of Lillington Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sarah Womble Sunday school class. Doris enjoyed cooking and serving the local community. She also enjoyed decorating her home during the Christmas season.

Doris is survived by daughter, Darla Hardee of Oak Island; son, Richard E. Weatherly of Wilmington; grandson, Charles W. Parnell, Jr and wife, Heather of Albemarle, granddaughters, Tara J. Parnell and husband Patrick Weaver of Wilmington and Marta Weatherly of San Diego, CA, grandsons, Richard E. Weatherly, Jr. of Wilmington and Marvin S. Weatherly and wife, NaTasha of Japan; 4 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Riley, Tanner and Jason; brother, Malcolm Goodman and wife, Shelby of Raleigh and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Westview Cemetery in Lillington with Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.
