Mrs. Doris D. Strickland, 86, of Buies Creek passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Doris was born in Harnett county, the daughter of the late O.E. and Annie Susan Millard Dixon. She worked and retired from the Campbell University Laundry after 41 years of service. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ivan C. Strickland, Sr. She loved to paint lighthouses, portraits and landscapes. Doris enjoyed going to the beach, fishing and going to yard sales. She also sang and played the piano.

Doris is survived by her son, Ivan "Butch" C. Strickland, Jr. and wife, Connie of Coats; daughter, Linda S. Welborn and husband, Darren of Hickory; 4 grandchildren, Angela James, David Strickland, Tony Jackson and Brittany Jackson; 4 great-grandchildren; Tahjme Strickland, Geonnie Strickland, Dylan Payne and Niyah Nichols; sisters, Sue Ramer and Martha Maynard; brothers, Sam Dixon, Bobby Dixon and Billy Dixon; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel with Rev. Steve Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Buies Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12:00-2:00 PM.
