Obituary

Mr. Dennis Sterling Walls, 69, of Aiken, SC, formerly of Harnett County, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident four weeks ago. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Frank Lee Walls and Evelyn Parker Walls. Sterling was a 1965 graduate of Boone Trail High School where he played football, baseball and basketball. Sterling grew up working on the family farm in Mamers. He also enjoyed helping his father collect and sell cars. Sterling also enjoyed showing Corvettes in regional car shows.

He was a member of the historic Boone Trail starting five that played the longest championship basketball game in 1965, which had 13 overtimes. Sterling received a basketball scholarship to Atlantic Christian College where he played. He served in the National Guard for four years. Sterling worked in the cemetery industry for over 25 years. He was presently Vice President and partner with Associated Cemetery Consultants in Danville, VA. Sterling enjoyed playing with dogs, Olivia, Gidget and his favorite, Elvis. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and most professional sports. Sterling loved spending time with his family and will truly be missed.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Martin Groover and Rev. Berry Barbour officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the church Sunday from 2:00-3:00 PM and other times at the home of his sister, Danette Foster, 1089 River Ridge Dr., Broadway, NC 27505.

Sterling is survived by his wife of 22 years, Angela Lee Walls of the home; son, Sterling Chance Walls and wife Dana of Decatur, GA; daughter, Misti Rae Walls of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Lily Walls of Decatur, GA and grandson, Scout Walls of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Danette Walls Foster and husband L.E. of Broadway, NC; brother, Don Walls and wife Carolyn of Wilmington, NC; nephew, Garrett Foster of Broadway, NC.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church, 6670 Old US Hwy 421, Lillington, NC 27546. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Broadway Town Cemetery.
