Mrs. Christine Newton Burgess passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 in Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington, NC. She was born to Stonewall Jackson and Anna Winkler Newton in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She worked as a social worker with the Harnett County School System, retiring in 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Prentiss Burgess, her parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Christine is survived by two daughters, Sandra Burgess Joyce of Fayetteville, NC and Susan Elaine Burgess and husband, Charles Klinzing of Monroeville, PA, three grandsons, Douglas Joyce and wife, Rosemary of Apex, NC, Michael Joyce and wife, Alexia of Apex, NC, and David Joyce of Raleigh, NC, three grandchildren, Hayden, Lana and Hunter, a sister-in-law, Dora Pryor of Youngsville, NC and three nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 on Thursday, February 5, at Lillington Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends at the home on Wednesday, February 4, from 6:00-8:00 and immediately following the memorial service at the church. Burial will be private at Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund or to a charity of one's choice.
