Charles "Charlie"  Dossett Gourlay, 73 of Erwin died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Charlie was born April 11, 1945 in Harnett County, North Carolina to the late Margaret N. Gourlay and the late Joseph B. Gourlay. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Duncan Gourlay.

Charlie served in the Army.  He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a huge Tarheel fan, who enjoyed watching them play football, basketball, and baseball. Charlie was the Director of Facilities at Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and he loved his job and work family. He was a lifetime, avid hunter, especially quail, dove, and pheasant. His favorite pastime was spending time at home or in the field with his beloved bird dogs, the Brittanys.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Charlene Marie Gourlay and her fiancé, Jonathan Christopher Rathbun, of Raleigh, North Carolina and numerous friends and extended family.

A service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory in Lillington, North Carolina.  A burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.
