Bob Harcel McAuley age 76 passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013 at Crabtree Valley Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh after many years of declining health. Bob was born June 1, 1937 in Harnett County to the late Ernest Clayton and Elizabeth McNeil McCauley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Flemon (Jim), Donald, and Fred McCauley.
After Bob served in the US Army, he returned from service as a diesel mechanic who worked for 38 years to keep equipment running for highway construction projects. He was a hard worker who enjoyed his yearly visits to the NC Mountains to recoup from the heat of the summer. He was proud of his girls, their husbands and a special grandson.
A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 pm Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Olive Branch Cemetery in Kipling with Rev. Melinda Ivey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Kipling Methodist Church Community Building. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
Mr. McAuley is survived by his wife of 51 years, (Shirley) Marlene Kendall McAuley; Daughters, Michelle Beard and husband Derrick of Fuquay-Varina; Angela Christman and husband Scott of Cary; Special grandson, Cameron Beard of Fuquay-Varina. Brothers, Troy McCauley (Janice) of Matthews, Clayborn McCauley of Lillington, Dougald McCauley (Nadine) of Mamers. Sisters, Elizabeth (Linda) Cummings and Betty Jean McCauley both of Sanford. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Our special thanks to the caregivers at Windsor Point for their special care during Bob's stay on Hayes Hall. They became special friends. Further thanks to the caring staff at Crabtree Valley Rehabilitation Center that made his final days meaningful.
