Barbara Ann Hitch Byrd, 84, of Bunnlevel, died Sunday, August 20, 2017. Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Richard J. and Laura Mae Stauffer Hitch. Barbara was a long time employee of Burlington Industries.

She attended Friendship Baptist Church since her move to North Carolina in 1952. She served as the church secretary after her retirement, was involved in the Women's Missionary Union, and taught an adult Sunday school class for many years. Barbara was an avid gardener. She also crocheted a multitude of afghans to warm those she loved.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George E. Byrd. She is survived by her daughter, Georgianna B. Kiggins and husband Tim of Sanford; sons Richard H. Byrd and wife Pam of Bunnlevel, Duane E. Byrd and wife Kathy of Bunnlevel; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Friendship Baptist Church in Bunnlevel with Rev. Phil Addison and Rev. Dan Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall Wednesday from 10:00-10:50 AM. A private family graveside service will be held Wednesday prior to the visitation.
