Mrs. Annie Lee Johnson Sox, 84, of Broadway passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Emerald Health and Rehabilitation in Lillington. She was born on June 7, 1934 in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Hal B. Johnson and Alma Watkins Johnson. Annie Lee grew up in Harnett County and graduated from Lafayette High School. After graduation, she married Maurice Weaver Sox and together worked on the farm to provide for the family. Later in life, she worked for J.T. Davenport in Sanford for many years. Attending Holly Springs Baptist Church, Annie Lee gave and received encouragement from her church community and showed her love for God. She enjoyed listening to bluegrass and gospel music. Annie Lee will be remembered for wearing sunglasses and a large hat while maintaining her yard.
In addition to her parents, Annie Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Weaver Sox; son, Stacy Weaver Sox; brothers, H.B. Johnson, Jr. and wife Hilda, Dolan Johnson, Alonzo Fleming Johnson and wife Barbel, and Gattis Johnson.
Annie Lee is survived by 3 daughters, Elizabeth Ann Sox of Broadway, Marian Cummings and husband Freddie of Lillington, Linda Blais and husband LTC. Christopher Blais US Army of Leesville, LA and son, Michael C. Sox of Broadway; 10 grandchildren, Ian Cameron and wife Crystal, Amna Cameron Warner and Ken Warner, Billie Laura Cameron Moore and husband Wesley, David Cameron; Holly Holt Bell and husband Jamick, Hope Cummings Wester and husband Chris, Susan Cummings; Jordan Blais, Aeriell Blais and Jonathan Blais; step-grandson, Dale Farmer; 16 great-grandchildren; great-great granddaughter; 2 sisters, Jean McGehee and husband Larry of Sanford, Katherine Holder and husband Bryce of Boone; sisters-in-law, Frances Johnson of Fuquay-Varina and Alda Johnson of Lillington; Dorothy Sox of Fuquay-Varina; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway with Rev. Scott Yow and Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the church multi-purpose building and other times at the home of Marian and Freddie Cummings.
