Obituary

Mrs. Annie Merle McGee Sawyer Hodges, 87, of Angier went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 26, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at her residence. She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Alton McGee and Floy McGee. Annie Merle was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Cecil Sawyer, James Dixon Hodges and daughter, Linda Ann Sawyer Douglas. She also was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister. Annie Merle was a life long homemaker who enjoyed working in the yard, sewing, singing and playing the piano in service to the Lord. She was a life long member of Pleasant Union Christian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Annie Merle shared her love and passion for gospel music in various settings throughout the community.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Pleasant Union Christian Church in Lillington with Dr. David Luethy and Pastor Greg Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens in Dunn. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 1:00-2:00 PM and other times at her home.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Thomas and husband Lin of Lillington, Sylvia Wallace and husband Glenn of Angier, Sharen Bryant and husband David of Sanford and Karen Adeimy and husband, Stuart of Cheraw, SC, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, sisters, Joyce Southerland of Wilson Mills, Alice Cox of Angier, Mavis Johnson of Four Oaks, brothers, Gene McGee of Benson and Ken McGee of Benson and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Centers of NC, 805c Tilghman Dr. , Dunn, NC 28334 or Liberty Hospice, 105 Hunt Valley Dr., Dunn, NC 28334.
